Modern Japanese haiku anthology hits bookstores

TEHRAN, July 24 (MNA) -- A collection of modern Japanese haiku entitled “Bee on the Palm of the Smiling Buddha” compiled and translated by Qodratollah Zakeri has been published by Morvarid Publications.

 

Zakeri has collected 105 haikus written by 47 modern Japanese poets between 1900 and 1930. The book contains a prologue on the process of the development of the haiku in Japan.

 

The compilation includes works by the celebrated Japanese poets Masaoka Shiki, Natsume Soseki and Ozaki Hosai.

 

Zakeri has studied Japanese language and literature at the University of Tehran. He is currently translating Osamu Dazai’s “No Longer Human”.
